Rattler Rub Party Mix

The vast majority of the time, we use Rattler Rub as a pre-seasoning, rub or marinade that is applied prior to cooking.  However, when we started sharing Rattler Rub with our friends and families, we were pleasantly surprised to hear that it was being used “raw” on popcorn, fruit, in ranch dressing, and even on the rim of margarita glasses!  While this salty snack does spend a few minutes in the oven, it is based on these recommendations from our first fans!  Perfect for an afternoon with cold drinks in hand, this recipe is an easy place to start when experimenting with Rattler Rub.  Everyone has his or her own way of making Chex Mix, so there is no “perfect” way of doing it.  The sky really is the limit.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Rattler Rub
  • 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 4 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups Cheez Its crackers
  • 2 cups mini pretzels
  • (Optional) 1 cup roasted, salted peanuts
  • (Optional) 3-4 dashes of Worcestershire or Maggi sauce

Directions

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees (F).  Spray two cookie sheets with cooking oil and put off to the side.

In a microwaveable bowl, heat the butter until completely melted.  While still warm, stir in the Rattler Rub and the optional Worcestershire/Maggi sauce.  Put off to the side.

In a very large bowl, combine the Chex, Cheez Its, pretzels and peanuts.  Once combined, slowly start pouring in the butter mixture.  Gently toss the mix well in order to ensure that the butter coats each piece.

Divide the mix onto the two cookie sheets and spread into a thin layer.  Bake the mix for 45-50 minutes, gently stirring the mix every 15 minutes to prevent burning.  Once done, take the cookie sheets out and let the mix cool completely before eating.

Again, have fun with this one!  Some people prefer a “toastier” version and keep the mix in the oven for up to an hour.  Some people prefer a spicier version and use more Rattler Rub and a touch of hot sauce in the butter mixture.  To each their own!  Just enjoy yourselves!
